Qatar, a key mediator in the ongoing conflict, has stated that a swift ceasefire in Gaza is unlikely and that negotiations will require considerable time.
While there's been some "positive engagement" in the indirect talks between Israel and Hamas in Doha, formal discussions haven't even officially begun. Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesperson indicated that they hope to establish a framework for successful talks, but there's no set timeline as the process "will need time.
Both sides have shown some willingness to engage, with Hamas giving a "positive" response to a recent US-backed ceasefire proposal. However, Hamas is also seeking guarantees for a complete end to the war and Israeli troop withdrawal, while Israel has called Hamas's requested changes "unacceptable" and insists on continuing to fight until Hamas is destroyed. These differing demands are major sticking points that are prolonging the negotiation process
